I attended my first pylon race at 9 years old. Dad, Brian, and I went to many races growing up and I have very fond memories of those days. At age 12, I met a guy by the name of Lyle Larson at a Q500 race in Billings, MT. He made me a deal. He said if I raced Formula 1 for a full season, the next year he'd have a complete plane for me to fly at the AMA Nats in Muncie. Darrol Cady gave us a Denight that he had used to get back into F1. We bought an OS and went racing. What an experience that was!
True to his word, Lyle had a composite Midget Mustang ready for me in Muncie the next year. He took care of lodging, meals, and everything else. We had a rough day. I was a little intimidated by the whole thing, but we did set the Junior National Record. It was an unbelievable thing to do for a 14 year old Montana boy.
In the fall of 2003, I purchased a Lanier Predator and TT Pro .40 to give racing a go again. Soon, that turned into two Predators. In the spring of 2004, Lyle cut me a deal on two awesome Q500's, known as the Bird of Prey, a few days before our wedding in South Dakota. If that wasn't enough, he gave me a Vendetta as a wedding gift. I purchased a Proud Bird from Lyle in September and can officially say I've got the racing bug pretty bad again. Actually, it never left, it just needed a little coaxing. Thanks Lyle...
